FUN and FREE Play & Learn Groups

The Wayne County Family Center hosts FUN and FREE Play & Learn groups at two different locations for children ages 1 to 5.

Essential Skills

Play & Learn groups are designed for children to play and get to know each other in a fun, safe and enriching environment. Their adults are right alongside them, joining in the fun or getting to know the other adults.

When playing with, or alongside, their peers, children naturally develop key motor skills, socialization, confidence and imagination. These are essential experiences that develop a child's social/emotional skills so they are comfortable and prepared to start school.

Growing Gardeners

Science and gardening grow together at the Family Center’s community garden beds. Watch the schedule to learn when to join us each growing season for refreshments, play time, relaxation and lots of hands-on activities that teach young children about plant growth, soil, weather, garden-to-table snacks and so much more.

Why?

Because kids love dirt! AND, it’s FREE and FUN. Hands-on experiences for children and families provide the very best opportunities for a young child’s learning.

ALL services from the WC Family Center are ALWAYS free.

Early Learning Is Crucial to Children, Families, and Communities

Your support will assist the Wayne County Family Center with not only its Play and Learn Groups and Growing Gardeners Garden Parties, but additional programs administered by the center:

  • Delivers Parents as Teachers home visits for families with children prenatal up to age 5.

  • Helps assure safe sleeping environments for Wayne County infants through the Cribs for Kyle program.

  • Conducts Play & Learn groups at Stoneworks Youth Center and the Wayne County Family Center.

  • Partners with Wayne County’s 0-3 and 3-5 early intervention programs.

  • Implements the Parent Pathways of Northeast PA program in Wayne and Pike counties—assisting in eliminating barriers for single parents who aim to attend college or trade school. The program empowers families to learn, thrive and succeed, two generations at a time.

  • Cultivates a child's interest in science and gardening through the Growing Gardeners community garden project for the young agronomist.
