The Family Center brings early education knocking right at your door.
Our FREE Parents as Teachers (PAT) personalized early learning sessions bring play, education and fun right to your young child and you! Time with the teacher is based on your family’s needs and availability and lasts approximately 1 ½ hours. Some families see their teacher once per month; other families request two, three or more sessions per month.
Our parent educators are professionals who are certified in the internationally-recognized PAT early-learning curriculum. Specialized visits to your home are planned between you and your Family Center teacher. The topics for each visit are chosen on your child’s age, development, their special interests and your specific questions. Each visit is planned regarding activities and parenting topics that interest you and your child.
At Wayne County Family Center, we are proud of the impact we have made in the lives of those we serve. We have helped thousands of individuals and families overcome challenges and achieve their goals, and we are committed to continuing this important work.
There are so many aspects to the Parents as Teachers program. It's not only learning, playing and reading. It's so much more...
Parents as Teachers is tailored to the specific needs and concerns of the family and child. The PAT curriculum is personalized to the needs of the family.
The curriculum encourages parents to engage with their child, learn about their child’s development and understand how to support their child's growth.
Parent Educators provide information about child development, milestones and fun, easy ways to encourage learning and healthy growth.
The PAT teacher is a safe confidant who parents can turn to to discuss any challenges or questions they have about parenting.
Parent Educators can connect families with community resources, such as family-friendly activities, support for food, finances, health or other needs.
Participation in the program can take place in the home, a park, library, or even virtually.
Families typically receive regular visits, often monthly, with the frequency adjusted based on the family’s individual needs.
In essence, the PAT program aims to empower parents to be their child's first and best teacher, fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for their child's optimum growth and development.
